Knowing More About Thai Foot Massage

Also known as Thai foot reflexology, the Thai foot massage is a unique blend of reflexology and foot massage. This therapeutic procedure uses the ancient art of Thai reflexology to provide a relaxing foot massage.

Did you know that this type of massage is one of the secrets kept and guarded by Buddhist monks? If you go back to its rich history, this original techniques and knowledge remain as secret. This secret is carefully kept and guarded by the Thai Royal Palace’s Buddhist monks. And this secret is said to be passed down from generation to generation – keeping intact the highly confidential massage techniques. Good thing that this massage technique was discovered and shared to us. Now, we have a chance to experience the relaxing and healing aspects of Thai massage, especially the Thai foot massage.

The massage procedure is composed of a series of massage technique that doesn’t just purify and detoxify the body.  It gives us the following health benefits:

  • It improves sleep
  • It helps ease stress and tension
  • It improves the immune system
  • It accelerates healing
  • Reduces fatigue
  • It enhances better blood circulation
  • It improves the lymphatic drainage, encouraging the movement of lymph fluids in our body.
  • It gives us feelings of calmness, tranquility, and well-being
  • It restores balance

How Does It Work?

According to the theory of acupuncture and acupressure, it is believed that there are over seven thousand sensory nerve endings in each foot. These nerve endings are connected to the internal organs of our body. Similar to these two, Thai foot massage is based on the belief that each of our foot has zones and reflex areas that correspond to different systems in our body. Reading the signs or these zones on the feet, applying pressure combinations using the hand, finger, and thumb, as well as understanding the client builds up the art and foundation of the authentic Thai foot massage.

In a typical Thai foot massage session, the client’s lower legs, as well as feet, are stretched, and then it is massaged to open the energy or Sen. various pressure points served as a map to the parts and organs in our body. These pressure points (includes ten major energy lines that run throughout our body) are stimulated using the massage techniques. With skillful massage techniques onto the soles of our feet, it will help restore our body’s natural balance.

There Are Two Styles To This Type Of Massage:

As part of the Thai Massage System – if you will have the traditional Thai massage, the massage therapist starts the session with a foot massage before working up the body. They use their thumbs, elbows, forearms, and knees. Sometimes, they also use their knees as well as feet to work in the side, prone effectively, and supine position. The massage session is commonly done on a floor mat, with the massage client fully-dressed, but massage oil is not applied.

Without the usage of massage oil, it prevents stroking and sliding movements. Thus, the massage techniques used here are primarily composed of stretches, pressure points, and different foot manipulations.

As foot reflexology (Thai version) – the main focus of this massage style is on the feet only, and massage lotion or oil is used. The session is mostly held with the therapist sitting on a chair, facing the client. The client sits on a comfortable recliner while his foot is resting on a stool. Stroking is the most applied technique for this style. It is done with thumbs, knuckles, or even the entire palm of the therapist.

With this, you can expect the massage therapist to be moving and stretching your feet in unfamiliar ways, but that will give you that relaxing feeling.

Although we have these two main styles, both of them are still part of the same massage system.  Some foot massage therapist is trained and used mainly the Thai massage, while others use and apply both these styles.
